CUNYTuesday & CCNYGives Day of Giving Campaign 2021
The City College of New York Is Celebrating Food Heroes As Our 2021 #CUNY Tuesday Campaign
This fall, CCNY is celebrating those who have served their communities as Food Heroes throughout the pandemic. We are honoring individuals and organizations for their selfless dedication and invaluable work they've provided to so many communities in need.
In the past year, CCNY has received heartfelt support for providing nutritious meals from the West Harlem Development Corporation, the Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation, the New York City Emergency Food Assistance Program and many alumni and friends around the world.
Our goal is to continue to provide year-round resources from our Benny's Food Pantry to our CCNY/CUNY community and to the Harlem area.
All #CUNYTuesday donations will help provide resources for the Pantry and for emergency funds.
About Benny's Pantry and Gardens
Benny's Food Pantry was first launched in 2017, in a small shared office space in the Colin Powell School's 5th floor suites. In 2019, the Pantry moved to a new, larger space in the Hoffman Lounge area at the North Academic Center (NAC) and renamed "Benny's" as a way to anchor the tradition of our pantry to the founding mission of our college to "open the doors to all."
In 2019, through the generosity of the Foundation for City College and a project inspired by the Moxie Foundation, we were able to open the Urban Gardens at City College. The Gardens, which serve as both a teaching space and a resource for the pantry, is cared for by our community through partnerships with the Office of the President, Office of Institutional Advancement and Communications, Campus Engagement Network and Campus Facilities and expands upon the important work of other garden spaces on campus that are managed by the teams responsible for the Solar Roof Pod at the Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture CUNY School of Medicine, and CCNY Green.
Our long-term goal is to work together to produce 1,000 pounds of fresh food for sharing with our campus, through Benny's Food Pantry. We anticipate returning to this planting schedule in 2021.
The pantry, located in the NAC Building's Hoffman Lounge (ground floor), is a resource for the entire CCNY campus community. Open five days a week, the pantry accepts donation of new, canned and boxed food as well as fresh food deliveries on a regular basis.
