The Foundation for City College

The Foundation for City College provides access to educational and research excellence, particularly to students who might not otherwise attend a senior college. Private gifts have the power to advance higher education, which transforms lives and communities and the Foundation strives to enrich the City College experience for students, faculty, and staff, and to work in collaboration with the President of The City College of New York to raise significant financial support from private sources, and to steward the Foundation’s assets while serving as advocates for the College.

The Foundation supports a variety of programs at City College, including named professorships, advanced research operations, innovative programs leading to increased student success and campus-wide wellness opportunities, workforce development initiatives as well as special programs and lectures that bring some of the nation’s top intellectuals to our campus.

The vision of the Foundation for City College is to be the steward of The City College of New York through the Foundation’s position as advocates for the College’s endowment, and to serve as a leader in accountability, stewardship, and overall commitment to excellence.

The Foundation Finance Team handles the finances for the Foundation for City College, the unit of OIACER that, as a not-for-profit corporation, handles philanthropic gifts, expenses supported by philanthropy, and the operations associated with philanthropy. We are a service-oriented team, with a mission to support the Foundation, OIACER, and the College as a whole.

Our mission is to provide excellent support to The City College of New York (CCNY), through partnership with the College President, Senior Leadership Team, College fundraisers, donors, the Foundation’s Board, and all divisions of the college. That support will allow fundraisers to focus on programs and donors; instill confidence in donors; and enable the programmatic work of college divisions.

To realize this mission we envision:

  • A team that operates collaboratively, effectively, efficiently, and with utmost integrity
  • Systems and processes, including data systems, that support the team’s work, maximizing each person’s effectiveness, making data transparent, automating work, and ensuring consistency
  • Strong relationships with all College divisions and deep knowledge of other units’ work

Contribute to our Mission

Did you know that the ten Nobel Prize winners who graduated from City College may not be able to attend the institution today? When many of them were students, tuition was free at City College. Their academic potential was the price of admission to an education from talented faculty at a dynamic learning environment. Even though today, City College remains the most affordable among elite institutions.

Yet, fewer and fewer bright young minds will have access to this top quality education. To stay competitive, City College must continue to innovate its curriculum, encourage faculty research, and invest in laboratory and equipment to keep our programs at the level of excellence everyone has come to expect. Year after year, government support to City College has declined.

In an unforgiving economy where every dollar counts, City College must continue to provide students and faculty with the resources—innovative academic programs, research opportunities, state-of-the-art facilities, and other offerings covered beyond the cost of tuition—that they need to thrive. This is where you can help.

Support City College today. Your generosity will allow the next generation of academic leaders to develop and flourish on our campuses.
