Alumni & Friends of the Program

Alum Dr. Lauren Levine ('90) authored Risking Intimacy and Creative Transformation in Psychoanalysis, which was published in April 2023 in the Routledge Relational Perspectives Book Series. Her book explores the transformational power of stories and storytelling in psychoanalysis; the power of stories to heal psychic wounds and create shared symbolic meaning and coherence out of ungrieved loss and trauma.

Congratulations to alum Dr. Ani Fredman (CCNY '23) who won the @EinsteinMed PRIME Research Day Poster Award for their poster—Cultivating Curiosity and Connection: Adapting the CARE Intervention for Caregivers of Gender Diverse Youth. Dr. Fredman also joined Prof. Steve Tuber and Prof. Sasha Rudenstine in co-authoring Children’s intrapsychic processes and aggressive-defiance behaviors as a function of sex, which was published in Psychoanalytic Psychology (2023).

Alum and Clinical Supervisor Dr. Irina Volynsky ('07) presents a paper on TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) and ketamine treatment for severe treatment-resistant depression in populations impacted by political-regime trauma, titled "Facing the abyss: When the treatment comes too late in severe multigenerational trauma," at the conference "Life after 22. Catastrophe Inside and Outside" (Жизнь после 22. Катастрофа внутри и снаружи).

Make a Gift

Our program relies on generous contributions to offer financial support to students throughout their education. Financial support for students is a critical ingredient to our ability to recruit students from diverse backgrounds for whom living in New York City as a full-time student would otherwise be prohibitive.

In addition, donations supplement grants received by the program to fund day-to-day operations  (i.e. a newly launched PhD Program Computer Lab for research and medical records charting) and to ensure that The Psychological Center is a welcoming and equipped community based mental health clinic for our Patients (i.e. bi-annual toy and book drive).

If you wish to make a donation to The Doctoral Program or to The Psychological Center please feel free to reach out to Steve Tuber (re: The Doctoral Program) or Sasha Rudenstine (re: The Psychological Center). All donations are a tax-deductible gift.

Supervise

Students in the Clinical Doctoral Program at CCNY are supervised by licensed psychologists, who volunteer one hour per week, as well as Program faculty. While students receive intensive and consistent supervision for the duration of their residency at The Psychological Center, our supervision model has been developed to account for the natural development of therapists-in-training. Students in years 1-2 work with one supervisor (one hour per week) for each patient that they see at The Psychological Center. Students in year 3+ work with one supervisor for every two patients seen at The Psychological Center. Student-supervisor dyads remain for at minimum one year, and two years with regards to child work.

We are fortunate that many of our alumni remain connected to our Program via supervision. We are also grateful that many other psychologists, otherwise unconnected to our program, volunteer to supervise our students. Work with supervisors is the foundation of our students' development as therapists and we appreciate the range of perspectives and training our supervisors bring to their work with our students.

If you are interested in supervising for our Program please contact Sasha Rudenstine, Associate Director of The Psychological Center ( mrudenstine@ccny.cuny.edu ).

Mentor

The CCNY Mentorship Program was established in 2023 as a means of connecting current doctoral students with volunteer alumni mentors. It is intended to offer resources and relationships in a nonevaluative manner extending beyond the clinical supervisory and advisement opportunities of the doctoral program.  Areas of mentorship might include internship applications, research interests, career trajectories, and teaching experienceThere are currently 38 alumni mentors available, all of whom are eager to help students in any way they can. The mentorship list is updated on an annual basis, and mentors can be contacted via email. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact the Clinical Program Administrator at clinicalpsychphd@ccny.cuny.edu .
