An emerging scientific consensus is that gases—in particular carbon gases--released by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago contributed to some of Earth’s greatest mass extinctions. Harriet F. Senie, director of the MA art history program at The City College of New York, is the College Art Association’s (CAA) 2020 Distinguished Professor of Art History Award winner. She’ll receive the honor at the CAA annual conference in Chicago on Feb. 12. The City College of New York (CCNY), the founding college of the largest urban university system in the United States, added $1.9 billion in income to 10 counties in the New York region in fiscal year 2017-18. This is according to an economic impact study released by the labor analytics firm Emsi. The study measures the economic impact of City College on the business community and the benefits CCNY generates in return for the investments made by its key stakeholder groups -- students, taxpayers, and society. Yaari Felber-Seligman and Seiji Shirane, historians at The City College of New York, are the institution’s latest National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) fellowship recipients. This is the fifth-year running that faculty in CCNY’s Division of Humanities and the Arts have won competitive NEH grants for innovative projects. The awards are part of $30.9 million in grants announced by the NEH to support 188 humanities projects in 45 states and the District of Columbia in 2020. The City College of New York honors the late Martin Luther King Jr. with the annual MLK Day of Service on Saturday, Jan. 18. The event is presented by the Department of Student Life and Leadership Development. From 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., CCNY volunteers will combine efforts to help repack and distribute 50,000 pounds of donated food at the Food Bank For New York City’s warehouse and distribution center in the Bronx. The City College of New York proudly announces a $2.4 million gift to its Master's in Translational Medicine (MTM) program by Seymour and Pearl Moskowitz. The gift will have a profound impact on the success and growth of MTM, a five-year-old program that is a collaboration between the Grove School of Engineering and CUNY School of Medicine.
