Annual Leave
Employees accrue annual leave monthly as set forth below:
- 25 days per year (2.084 days per month)
- Maximum accrual is 50 days.
Holidays and Unscheduled Holidays
Regular holidays with pay and unscheduled holidays are listed on the Employee Holiday and Annual Leave Periods sheet under “Group 1” found here CUNY Employee Holiday and Annual Leave 2024-2025.
Unscheduled holidays are allotted at the beginning of the leave year (September 1) and must be used by the end of the same leave year (August 31).
The number of unscheduled holidays allotted for the year is listed on the Holiday Schedule. Newly hired employees receive a pro-rated amount of unscheduled holidays, based on their start date, during the first annual leave year of employment.
Temporary Disability (Sick) Leave
Employees are allotted 20 days per year and accrue on a monthly basis.
20 days/12 months per year = 1.667 days per month Maximum accrual is 160 days.
Employees who are absent from work for more than 5 consecutive days due to illness must file Family Medical Leave Forms with the Human Resources Department.
Special Leaves
Special leaves may be granted to ECPs for personal emergencies, including bereavement, of not more than ten working days with pay at the discretion of the President. This leave is in accord with Section 13.3 a of the CUNY Bylaws.
Jury Duty
Employees who are required to serve on a jury, or are required to report to Court in person in response to a jury duty summons, or are required to report for jury examination, or to qualify for jury duty, shall receive their regular salary during such absences provided that they remit to the University an amount equal to the compensation received by them, if any, for jury duty. Submission of Certification of Jury Duty Service is required along with time-sheet for time served to be honored.

Annual Leave
Employees accrue annual leave monthly, based on years of service, as set forth below:

Beginning 15th year+ | 27 days per year/12 months = 2.250 days per month accrual |
Maximum accrual is double the annual allotment. Full-time employees who have completed 4 months of service may be permitted to take approved annual leave as it accrues.

Sick Leave
Employees are allotted 12 days per year and accrue on a monthly basis. 12 days/12 months per year = 1.00 day per month accrual.
There is no maximum accrual.
Employees who are absent from work for 3 or more consecutive days due to illness are required to bring in a note from their health care provider. Employees who are absent from work for more than 5 consecutive days due to illness must file Family Medical Leave forms with the Human Resources Department.
Bereavement Leave
Employees may take up to 4 days for the death of an immediate family member as defined below:
Immediate family shall be defined as spouse; natural, foster, or step parent; grand child; mother-in-law; father-in-law; natural, foster, or step brother; natural, foster, or step sister, natural, foster, or step child or any relative residing in the same household and effective January 1, 2004, the Domestic Partner of the employee and a child or parent of the Domestic Partner or any other relative of the Domestic Partner living in the same household.
Jury Duty
Employees who are required to serve on a jury, or are required to report to Court in person in response to a jury duty summons, or are required to report for jury examination, or to qualify for jury duty, shall receive their regular salary during such absences provided that they remit to the University an amount equal to the compensation received by them, if any, for jury duty.

Annual Leave
Employees accrue annual leave monthly, based on years of service, as set forth below:
- During 1st year of service: 15 days per year (1.25 days per month)
- During 2nd – 11th year of service and thereafter: 15 days plus one additional day for each year of service to a maximum of 25 days.
Maximum accrual is 45 days (50 days for employees in an Excluded Group).

Hourly Classified Employees
Instructional Staff
Annual Leave:
Only instructional staff members employed as Librarians or Counselors will accrue annual leave time.
For full-time teaching members of the faculty who have taught for a full year the period of annual leave is from the day subsequent to the June commencement until the thirtieth of August following such commencement or an equivalent consecutive period.
For members of the Instructional Staff who, prior to January 1, 1988, are employed full-time as Librarians and who continue to be employed as Librarians there shall be 30 work days of annual leave.
Members of the Instructional Staff who are employed full-time as Librarians on or after January 1, 1988 shall accrue annual leave at the following rates:

For instructional staff members who, prior to September 1, 1998 were appointed or assigned full-time as Counselors or to other student personnel assignments, except those in the Higher Education Officer series, the period of annual leave shall be from the day subsequent to the June commencement of each college until the thirtieth of August following such commencement or an equivalent consecutive period.
Members of the instructional staff who are appointed or assigned full-time as Counselors or to other student personnel assignments on or after September 1, 1998, except those in the Higher Education Officer series, shall accrue annual leave at the following rates:

Sick Leave:
Each year you earn 20 calendar days of temporary disability leave exclusive of Saturdays, Sundays and authorized holidays and recesses. The unused portions of temporary disability leave can be accumulated to a maximum of one hundred and sixty (160) calendar days. Sick leave is earned only after a full month of service and no accruals are granted for service of less than a calendar month.
Unscheduled Holidays:
Only instructional staff members employed as Librarians or Counselors will accrue unscheduled holidays. There are typically four (4) unscheduled holidays (personal days) during the period September 1 – August 31 of each year. Unscheduled holidays may not be carried over to the next year.
Bereavement Leave:
Pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement between The City University of New York and The Professional Staff Congress/CUNY (2010-2017):
Section 14.8 provides as follows: All full-time instructional staff members shall be entitled to up to four days of paid bereavement leave for a death in the immediate family (defined as spouse, domestic partner, parent, step-parent, father-in-law, mother-in law, child, stepchild, sibling, grandparent or grandchild). Proof of bereavement shall be provided upon request made by the department chair, supervisor, or the College Human Resources Department. Instructional staff members shall notify their department chair or supervisor of the need for the leave as soon as possible.
