Escribir Poesía en Español I / Writing Poetry in Spanish I

Este seminario-taller busca responder a una serie de preguntas ¿Cuáles son las formas de la poesía? ¿Cuál es la relación entre el contenido y la forma? ¿Cuáles han sido las diferentes formas que ha asumido la poesía a través de la historia de occidente? ¿Cómo se distinguen esas formas en su dimensión material? ¿Cuáles son las posibles clasificaciones y qué valor tienen para el poeta? ¿Cuáles son las formas experimentales que asume hoy en día la poesía? ¿Cuál es la relación entre poesía y tecnología? ¿Qué es la anti-poesía? ¿Qué son la poesía concreta y la poesía expandida?  Entre las formas a discutir están: soneto, romance, villancico, silva, zéjel, canción, madrigal, letrilla, jarchas, coplas, la anti-poesía, etc.

Cada participante desarrollará un portafolio de 10 a 12 poemas para publciación o envío a concursos. El taller finalizará con una lectura colectiva de trabajos seleccionados por los participantes.

This seminar-workshop addresses a series of questions: What are the forms of poetry? What is the relationship between content and form? What have been the different forms that poetry has taken throughout the history of the Western world? How do these forms distinguish themselves in their material dimension? What are the possible classifications, and what value do they hold for the poet? What experimental conditions does poetry assume today? What is the relationship between poetry and technology? What is anti-poetry? What are concrete poetry and expanded poetry? Among the forms to be discussed are: sonnet, romance, villancico, silva, zéjel, song, madrigal, letrilla, jarchas, coplas, anti-poetry, etc.

Each participant will develop a portfolio of 10 to 12 poems for publication or submission to contests. The workshop will conclude with a collective reading of works selected by the participants.

Carlos Aguasaco es una de las voces más influyentes de la poesía hispana en los Estados Unidos. Es catedrático de Estudios Culturales Latinoamericanos y director del Departamento de Estudios Interdisciplinarios de City College of the City University of New York. Ha editado trece antologías literarias y publicado varios libros de poemas, entre ellos The New York City Subway Poems – Poemas del metro de Nueva York (Ashland Poetry Press -Ashland University-: Ohio, 2020), premio Juan Felipe Herrera al mejor libro bilingüe de poesía en ILBA 2021. En 2021 The Academy of American Poets le otorgó el Ambroggio Prize, único premio nacional para un autor cuya primera lengua sea español por su libro Cardinal in My Window with a Mask on Its Beak traducido por Jennifer Rathbun (Arizona University Press, 2022). Es el fundador y editor en jefe de Artepoética Press en Nueva York. Coordina Americas Film Festival of New York y dirige Americas Poetry Festival of New York. Desde 2021, es columnista en Newsweek En Español.

Carlos Aguasaco is one of the most influential voices of the new Hispanic poetry in the United States. He is Professor of Latin American cultural studies and Director of the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at City College of the City University of New York. He has edited thirteen literary anthologies and authored several poetry collections, including The New York City Subway Poems / Poemas del metro de Nueva York (Ashland Poetry Press -Ashland University-: Ohio, 2020), recipient of the 2021 Juan Felipe Herrera Award for the best bilingual book of poetry granted by ILBA. The Academy of American Poets awarded him the 2021 Ambroggio Prize, the only national award for an author whose first language is Spanish for his book Cardinal in My Window with a Mask on Its Beak translated by Jennifer Rathbun (Arizona University Press, 2022). Aguasaco is the founder and Editor in Chief of Artepoética Press in NYC. He also coordinates the Americas Poetry Festival and the Americas Film Festival of New York. Since 2021 Aguasaco has been a columnist for Newsweek En Español.
