FREE English Classes

Thank you for your interest in City College of New York's FREE ENGLISH CLASS for working immigrants.  We are a combined workforce and ESOL program funded by the New York State WIOA program.  The program helps non-native English speakers develop proficiency in grammar, reading, listening, speaking and writing skills as well as building students skills for success in the workplace. 

We are funded by the NYS Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Grant which allows us to offer ESOL classes tuition-free. Our requirements are: (1) Age requirement: 19 years old or older, (2) Residency Requirement: Must be NYS Resident, and (3) Available for Employment.

Because this is a workforce program, employment is one of our outcome requirements.  After the program, we will contact you to check on your progress and to see if you are employed.

Prospective students can register on our waiting list. Due to high volume of applicants, space is limited. When space is available, students are invited to an orientation session and to take a placement test. Students are placed in class based on their scores and program availability.  Students will be chosen for class on a first come first serve basis. 

 

Gracias por su interés en la CLASE DE INGLÉS GRATUITA del City College of New York para inmigrantes trabajadores.  Somos un programa combinado de fuerza laboral y ESOL financiado por el programa WIOA del estado de Nueva York.  El programa ayuda a los hablantes no nativos de inglés a desarrollar competencias en gramática, lectura, comprensión auditiva, expresión oral y escritura, así como a desarrollar las habilidades de los estudiantes para el éxito en el lugar de trabajo.

Estamos financiados por la subvención de la Ley de Innovación y Oportunidad de la Fuerza Laboral del Estado de Nueva York (WIOA) que nos permite ofrecer clases de ESOL sin matrícula.  Nuestros requisitos son: (1) Requisito de edad: 19 años o más, (2) Requisito de residencia: Debe ser residente del estado de Nueva York y (3) Estar disponible para empleo.

Los futuros estudiantes pueden inscribirse en nuestra lista de espera. Debido al alto volumen de solicitantes, el espacio es limitado. Cuando hay espacio disponible, se invita a los estudiantes a una sesión de orientación y a tomar una prueba de nivel. Los estudiantes son colocados en clase en función de sus puntajes y la disponibilidad del programa.  Los estudiantes serán elegidos para la clase por orden de llegada.

Program Levels:

The program helps non-native English speakers develop proficiency in grammar, reading, listening, speaking and writing skills as well as building students skills for success in college and the workplace. 

We also have Case Management that provides advisory services to students. The levels are the following: Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced.  Applicants will take a level test to determine their levels before the beginning of the class.

El programa ayuda a los hablantes no nativos de inglés a desarrollar competencias en gramática, lectura, comprensión auditiva, expresión oral y escritura, así como a desarrollar las habilidades de los estudiantes para tener éxito en la universidad y el lugar de trabajo.

También contamos con Case Management que brinda servicios de asesoría a los estudiantes. Los niveles son los siguientes: Principiante, Intermedio y Avanzado.  Los solicitantes realizarán una prueba de nivel para determinar sus niveles antes del comienzo de la clase.

 

Program Schedules:

Morning Classes

Class Time: 9:30 am -12:30 pm

Beginner: Monday and Wednesday

Intermediate and Advanced: Tuesday and Thursday

Evening Classes

Class Time    6:00pm – 9:00pm

Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced: Tuesday and Thursday

A diligent and passionate educator with over 20 years of teaching experience in the U.S. and overseas. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Baruch College, CUNY Zicklin School of Business, a certificate of excellence in the Chinese language from Shenzhen University, and financial planning from NYU, School of Continuing and Professional Studies. I have always believed that we have done our job if our students can say they learned something after each class. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing them achieve their goals and successfully transition into society.
