Updates and Announcements
President Boudreau informed the Cabinet that he would like them to develop a calendar of black-out dates for vacation. He stated these will be dates when designated people in your office will not be able to take vacation a week prior to or a week after the first day of classes. He also stated he would like to start a formal black-out policy where in advance of the end of the semester break and next year’s registration and graduation, we’re communicating to staff that they will not be allowed to take vacation during that time.
President Boudreau informed the Cabinet of his conversation with Anna Pond, the facilitator for the October 11, 2022 Cabinet Retreat. He stated he and Anna walked through the agenda, which will circle around enrollment and informed everyone that we will use enrollment to get to some of the bigger issues we have on campus. He continued to say the retreat will address some of the things we’re grappling with now, but will also set us up for some of the big planning that we’re going to be doing over the course of the year: The beginning of a master planning process and the beginning of a strategic planning process.
President Boudreau mentioned the recent visit to the Rangel Center by Governor Kathy Hochul, members of Congress, members of the Upper Manhattan and Albany Delegations. He stated there is work that we can be doing to take advantage of the tremendous investment that is coming out of the Federal government on workforce development.
In conclusion, President Boudreau gave an update regarding the search for a Chief Operating Officer. He stated the committee has narrowed the position down to four candidates and interviews are being set up for campus visits. Cabinet members will have a chance to meet each candidate in the coming weeks.
In regard to enrollment and admissions, President Boudreau discussed the detailed process map of the admissions process, which breaks down month by month details of key dates; what’s being processed, what’s happening with transfer evaluations, what’s happening with initiative-based communications (communications to students at different stages in their admissions process), etc.
In addition, Executive Director Nikisha Williams discussed the CUNY PMP Data Explorer to provide more insight on enrollment. She also discussed the Student Data Book that can be found within the Data Explorer which can be located on the Institutional Research website (https://www.cuny.edu/institutionalresearch/cuny-public-dashboards). She stated, this is a useful tool where one can find enrollment headcounts and other useful information.
President Boudreau postponed the discussion on the PMP. However, he informed the Cabinet that he would be speaking individually to those who are giving him data points. Once received by all, he will then consolidate the information and share the PMP goals with all at the next meeting of the Cabinet.
In conclusion, Peer introductions were given by Dean Marta Gutman who shared information about herself. At the November Cabinet meeting Interim Librarian Lon Mendelsohn and Executive Director Nikisha Williams will share information about themselves.
The meeting adjourned at 12:03 pm.
