Associate Provost Wesson opened the meeting at 10:00 am and asked for a motion on the April 3rd Cabinet meeting’s minutes: The minutes were approved. Associate Provost Wesson stated she would begin the meeting with Dean Gutman’s presentation of the Spitzer School of Architecture.
Following Dean Gutman’s presentation, President Boudreau gave a few announcements, starting with the announcement of AVP David Robinson’s retirement from the Department of Facilities. He stated AVP Robinson is currently on Travia Leave, but will be periodically doing check-ins to make sure things have so far been going smoothly. He also stated that we were nearing the end of the search process for a Chief Diversity Officer and beginning May 1st, the college would have a permanent Chief Librarian. President Boudreau went on to inform everyone that the 2023 Presidential Humanitarian Awards Celebration will take place on May 2nd and the honorees will be H. Carl McCall and Stephen Somerstein.
Lastly, he provided the Cabinet with a bit of information he learned from the Council of Presidents meeting and also gave an update on the CUNY Institute for State and Local Governance (ISLG), stating that there would be a more in-depth conversation on this at a later date.
Associate Provost Wesson asked Associate Provost Strzeszewski to begin her presentation around transfer student retention. Following her presentation, President Boudreau asked the Deans to meet with their chairpersons regarding course transfers and courses that are not being accepted. He asked that the Deans have a report available at the May 15th Cabinet meeting.
VP Mozeleski discussed the Revenue Plan for Workforce Development, specifically focusing on a grant by Rep. Adriano Espaillat.
Provost Liss spoke about talks he had about retention numbers in the divisions and how to build a revenue-related retention model. He stated that he met with Nikisha Williams, Director of Institutional Research and they looked at retention numbers by division, program and majors. Provost Liss also stated that soon we will have year-to-year and multi-year retention numbers by program; both for retention within the program and within the college.
Take-Aways/Action Items
- Deans to have conversations with their department chairpersons, afterwards, chairpersons to have conversations with their faculty around training programs and the idea of Navigate.
- Deans to report back on conversations with chairpersons regarding transfer courses and courses that are not being accepted at the May 15th Cabinet meeting.
President Boudreau briefly spoke about the matchup between the graduate programs that exist, the interest of students, the need of the workforce and the graduate programs that don’t exist, but could be envisioned. He stated a lengthier conversation will take place at the May 1 Cabinet meeting. Provost Liss stated, as a starting point for discussion, he will compile data from a previous financial model for graduate programs.
