Hispanic Outlook ranks CCNY a top school for Latinx/a/o

With 37% of its more than 18,000 students identifying as Latinx/a/o, The City College of New York remains on The Hispanic Outlook on Education Magazine’s annual Top 100 Colleges and Universities for Hispanics list. BIC’s new media track at CCNY inspires new generation of communications leaders

The City College of New York’s Branding + Integrated Communications (BIC) graduate program has added a Media track to its Master of Professional Studies (MPS) curriculum. Admission candidates can apply as of October 1, 2021 to become part of the Media track’s first cohort for fall 2022. BIC MPS students can gain specialization depth in one of four tracks (Creative, Management/Strategy, Public Relations, and now Media) while studying marketing communications in BIC’s unique integrated environment. CCNY researchers announce photon-phonon breakthrough

New research by a City College of New York team has uncovered a novel way to combine two different states of matter. For one of the first times, topological photons—light—has been combined with lattice vibrations, also known as phonons, to manipulate their propagation in a robust and controllable way. The study utilized topological photonics, an emergent direction in photonics which leverages fundamental ideas of the mathematical field of topology about conserved quantities—topological invariants—that remain constant when altering parts of a geometric object under continuous deformations. Spitzer School students win international landscape prize in Barcelona

The City College of New York’s Master of Landscape Architecture Program clinched the International Landscape School’s Prize at the 11th International Biennial of Landscape Architecture in Barcelona, Spain. Work by Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture students was submitted to represent the program's approach to the Biennial's theme, “Climate Change Again.” The award was delayed by Covid, but the school's work was presented as finalists at the Escola Tèchnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona last year. Experiential learning in the sciences and engineering at The City College of New York is set for a significant expansion encompassing several CUNY community colleges and Teachers College, Columbia University after a five-year $5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE). Four computer science undergraduate students and one graduate student took The City College of New York to third place in the Overhead Imagery Hackathon (OIH). Dr. Erica Friedman, Interim Dean of the CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) at The City College of New York and a medical student educator for more than 25 years, is a recipient of the 2021 Hispanic Health Leadership Award from the National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF).
