Our GED Program

Our GED Preparation/HSE classes prepare students to pass the GED (General Educational Development) Exam leading to a High School Equivalency (HSE) Diploma as well as building students skills for success in college and the workplace, and provides ongoing advisory services to students. The classes prepare you to pass five areas of the GED Exam: Language Arts/Writing, Language Arts/Reading, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics.

We are funded by the NYS Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Grant which allows us to offer adult education classes tuition-free. Our requirements are: (1) Age requirement: 19 years old or older, (2) Residency Requirement: Must be NYS Resident, and (3) Available for Employment. 

Because this is a workforce program, employment is one of our outcome requirements.  After the program, we will contact you to check on your progress and to see if you are employed.

We also encourage advanced English level immigrants to take our GED Prep classes to get a HSE diploma if you don't have a high school diploma from your country of origin when you immigrated to New York.   We do offer English classes if your level is too low for our GED Prep classes.

Due to high volume of applicants, space is limited.

Please register on our waiting list. When a seat is available, students are invited to an orientation session and to take a placement test (TABE Test). Students are placed in class based on their scores and program availability.  

Students will be chosen for class on a first come first serve basis.   

 

Program Requirements

  • We are a program for working adults.  Please be 19 years older and not enrolled or required to be enrolled in secondary school (high school) under NYS law.
  • Must be NY State Resident (We are funded by the NYS Education Department)
  • Students on a F-1 visa status cannot participate in this program. Please visit our English Language Institute  https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/cps/about-eli
  • We are funded by the NYS Education Department.  Students residing outside New York State cannot participate in this program.
  • Students must attend an orientation where a placement test (TABE Locator and TABE Test) will be given to determine eligibility to join the class.
  • If classes go online, students must have a computer or tablet with internet connection in order to participate.

Yoland Moore

I have been working as a Continuing Professional and Studies adjunct GED instructor since 2018. For the past 30 years, I have been dedicated to promoting adult education and empowering individuals in their learning journey. My goal is to provide a high-quality education that can have a deep and lasting impact on people's lives.
Today, more than ever, I am proud to have worked with several community-based adult literacy organizations, helping adults who deserve a second chance to achieve their lifelong dream of obtaining their high school diploma.
Learning is not just a one-time thing. It should be a continuous process that evolves with the needs and interests of the learner. I take pride in my ability to engage learners and meet their learning needs. As a lifelong learner myself, I am dedicated to ongoing motivation, perseverance, and exploring the latest research in adult education.
