Information for Faculty and Marshals
There are several ways for Faculty and Staff to participate in the pageantry of the annual City College Commencement Ceremony.
FACULTY PROCESSION
The Faculty Procession is a key component of the main Academic Procession which opens the commencement ceremony. Members of the faculty, wearing their colorful academic regalia enter South Field as a group and then sit together, close to the stage, to view the ceremony.
The President and Provost request that each academic department be represented at graduation exercises by half of its full-time faculty. It is important to ensure faculty attendance at this most important occasion for our students. If you are interested in participating in the Faculty Procession, please contact your department chair. If you need to purchase academic regalia, please see the information below.
Each chair is requested to send the names of those in their department who will march. Those names will be compiled in an excel file to include First Name, Last Name, Department, E-mail address and phone extension. Please send this to Dominic Stellini dstellini@ccny.cuny.edu by April 29, 2024.
COMMENCEMENT MARSHALS
All members of the faculty and staff are invited to volunteer to serve as Commencement Marshals. Marshals are crucial for the smooth functioning of the commencement exercises. In order to manage the many parts of the Ceremony efficiently, Marshals are divided into several teams:
- Student Procession Marshals
- Seating Marshals
- Faculty Marshals
- House Marshals
- Accessibility Marshals
Descriptions of the responsibilities of each team can be found here.
The College will supply basic gowns to all Marshals who need them. If you would like regalia that reflects your degree, you will need to provide your own or order from the commencement vendor. See the section below for more information.
Please note, if you are a faculty member and would like to march and sit with the faculty during the ceremony, serving as a marshal does not preclude you from doing so.
To volunteer, please complete the online CCNY 2024 Commencement Marshal Registration by April 19th.
