Championing Global Health and Human Rights: Camden Malone '23
A graduate of CCNY’s Master’s in International Affairs program, Camden Malone has dedicated his career to addressing global challenges in health, climate, and human rights. Inspired by a conversation with Dr. Jean Krasno, Camden took full advantage of opportunities at CCNY, from studying abroad in Senegal to interning at the United Nations. Now, as a Global Health Policy Associate at the United Nations Foundation, he collaborates with the World Health Organization and leads initiatives such as Amref USA’s Associate Board.
Hailing from Geneseo, NY, Camden pursued his bachelor’s in Political Science and History at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. His passion for international relations developed during the pandemic, and he complemented his studies with a love for track and field, which he continued at CCNY.
Why CCNY and the Colin Powell School?
Drawn by CCNY’s rich history, diversity, and outstanding faculty, Camden saw New York City as the ideal place to study international affairs. A pivotal conversation with Dr. Jean Krasno, then MIA Program Director, reassured him that the program would help him achieve his ambitions— and it did.
A Career Focused on Global Health
Driven by a deep commitment to human rights, public health, climate change, and security, Camden felt that his studies at CCNY prepared him to contribute meaningfully to these global issues.
Camden’s career has centered on building a healthier and more resilient world. He has engaged in intergovernmental negotiations on pandemics, infectious diseases, and global health financing, working closely with skilled diplomats and organizations like the World Health Organization. As co-chair of Amref USA’s Associate Board, he supports a nonprofit that provides essential health services and workforce training across Africa.
Shaping a Career Through CCNY
The MIA program’s dynamic learning experience and real-world applications played a crucial role in Camden’s growth. His professors were instrumental in securing his internship at the United Nations, which became a critical stepping stone in his career.
Camden envisions a more adaptable and effective United Nations, with increased public involvement in decision-making. His goal is to foster unity and collaboration on a global scale.
Studying abroad in Senegal profoundly influenced Camden’s master’s thesis and career path. He also credits his advisor, Professor Fomerand, for instilling the belief that meaningful change starts with individual actions.
