Diana Perez ‘18, a first-generation Mexican immigrant and proud Latina alumna of the Colin Powell School at CCNY, embodies resilience, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Through her studies in Economics and Mathematics, she sought to address economic inequalities and empower marginalized communities. Today, as a co-founder of Radiate Consulting NY, a worker-owned cooperative, she continues to champion social justice through culturally sensitive services.

A Journey Rooted in Community and Social Justice

Raised in a community where family, hard work, and cultural pride were paramount, Diana's early involvement in immigrant rights and social justice initiatives shaped her commitment to uplifting others on similar journeys. This drive brought her to CCNY and the Colin Powell School, where she found a community that values diversity and social justice. Here, Diana pursued her passion for entrepreneurship, striving to create meaningful impact through economic empowerment.

Pursuing Change through Education and Entrepreneurship

At City College, Diana was motivated by a desire to create positive change, especially for immigrants and women of color. Studying economics and mathematics, she aimed to tackle economic inequalities and advocate for inclusive opportunities. Her academic journey was intertwined with her dedication to social justice, setting the stage for her career in entrepreneurship. After graduating, Diana co-founded Radiate Consulting NY, a cooperative focused on providing culturally and politically relevant services, embodying her commitment to creating inclusive solutions for her community.

Navigating Challenges and Advocating for Others

Diana's time at City College was marked by resilience and support from the Colin Powell School. As an undocumented student, she faced financial barriers, but a scholarship provided much-needed relief. The support of her professors and the dean, who advocated on her behalf, was invaluable. This experience not only alleviated her economic burdens but also reinforced her commitment to advocating for others facing similar challenges.

Advice for Students: Embrace Your Journey

Diana encourages students to embrace their unique experiences and use them as a source of strength. She emphasizes the importance of seeking mentors, allies, and resources, advocating for oneself, and believing in one's worth. "Your resilience is your strength, and your voice is powerful," she says. Diana's journey is a testament to perseverance and the impact of advocating for oneself and others.
