Interfaith and Meditation Space at City College

City College of New York (CCNY) welcomes students of all faiths and traditions. As a public institution, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where freedom of religious expression is encouraged and respected. To support the spiritual and wellness needs of our diverse community, we provide a dedicated Interfaith and Meditation Space in the North Academic Center (Room 1/211), adjacent to the Office of Student Life and Leadership.

This space is intended for individual prayer, meditation, and quiet reflection, and is open to all students, faculty, and staff. While the space itself is religiously neutral—containing no religious symbols—students are welcome to bring personal items that support their individual practices. For convenience, there is a designated area for shoes, prayer mats, and religious texts just outside the room.

Please note that the space is not intended for religious events or group activities. If a group would like to host a religious event, they should follow the event request process with the Office of Student Life and Leadership.

The Interfaith and Meditation Space is governed by a set of house rules to ensure respect and inclusivity for all users, and it is overseen by the Interfaith Council, which includes representatives from various religious organizations on campus. The council fosters open dialogue, ensures mutual respect, and addresses the evolving needs of our religiously diverse community.

We invite you to review the House Rules below, which help maintain the sanctity and purpose of this space:

1. No food is allowed to maintain cleanliness and respect for fasting practices.
2. The space shall not be used for storage.
3. Religious texts, posters, and symbols are not to be displayed within the room.
4. The space is reserved for individual religious practices, not for group events or meetings.
5. No shoes are allowed on the carpet when it is rolled out for prayer purposes.

For any group religious events, please contact the Office of Student Life and Leadership to follow the appropriate event request process.

This space stands as a testament to CCNY’s dedication to inclusivity, wellness, and learning from our diverse campus community.
