Zero Textbook Cost Degree in Sociology

At CCNY, the Sociology major is now a Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) major. This means that students are able to obtain a sociology degree without purchasing a single textbook for their sociology courses.

Sociology faculty understand the cost of college is already high, so our department has developed a way for students to complete the Sociology Bachelor’s degree without any textbook costs. Required materials for courses will include Open Education Resources (OER), access to CUNY library databases, and links to reading material provided by instructors.

As of Fall 2023, the sociology department is offering 18 ZTC courses, as well as some Low Textbook Cost courses.
