Simultaneously obtain both a Masters Degree and certification. Program open to both in-service and pre-service candidates.
CCNY offers two options for those interested in a middle school science teacher certification program. Stream A is an initial certification plus Master's degree program for teacher candidates who do not have any certification. Stream B is a professional certification plus Master's degree program for teachers who already have an initial certificate.

All program changes must be requested and approved in writing.
Stream A: Master of Science Education Degree in Middle School Science Education, Initial Certification
Entrance requirements:
- satisfactory completion of a Bachelor's Degree in any area with at least 15 credits in science (any deficiencies in the 15 science credits could be completed concurrently with Master's Degree)
- two supporting letters of recommendation.
Stream B: Master of Science Education Degree in Middle School Science Education, Professional Certification
Entrance requirements:
- satisfactory completion of a Bachelor's Degree in any area with at least 15 credits in science (any deficiencies in the 15 science credits could be completed concurrently with Master's Degree)
- initial certification in any area
- two supporting letters of recommendation.
Stream C: Master of Science Education Degree in Middle School Science Education, Initial Certification: Transitional B Option
This degree is intended for individuals with limited background in science but without any certification and want to be certified in the classroom as soon as possible. Candidates must be part of existing Transitional B programs such as New York City Teaching Fellows.
