Undergraduate Programs

The Division of Science offers Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Bachelor of Art (B.A.) degrees in a number of programs and disciplines.  Brief descriptions of each degree program are given below. To learn more about a particular program use the links below.

BIOLOGY

The core program in Biology provides an integrated academic background in all areas of the biological sciences from cell and molecular biology, to genetics and organismic biology, to ecology and evolution

CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY

The B.S. program in Chemistry is available to students planning to go into advanced study, chemical industry, government service, the health professions, or secondary school education. It provides research and training in all major branches of chemistry, such as analytical, biochemical, environmental, inorganic, organic, and physical.

EARTH AND ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES

The B.S. degree in Geology is offered in two concentrations: Earth Systems Science and Engineering Geology.  Students are trained to work on climatology, environmental remediation projects, surface hydrology, and a wide range of NASA- and NOAA-supported research projects.

ENVIRONMENTAL EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCE

The new multidisciplinary B.S. Degree in Environmental and Earth System Science enables students to develop a well-rounded understanding of the science behind environmental issues to create better solutions. The program offers tracks in remote sensing, water resources, Geographic Information Systems, and environmental studies.

MATHEMATICS

The following Mathematics degrees are offered: B.A., B.S., and a combined Bachelor of Arts/Master of Arts (BA/MA) degree.  The programs enable students to prepare for graduate study as well as for careers in industry and education.  Majors may choose to specialize in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Secondary School Education.

PHYSICS

The B.S. degree in physics focuses on undergraduate training in basic physics with unique opportunities for students to work closely with a world-renown research faculty. Students may choose course programs in materials science, photonics, biophysics, education, and other areas.

PROGRAM IN PREMEDICAL STUDIES

The Program in Premedical Studies (PPS) is designed to prepare students for careers in medicine, dentistry, osteopathy, veterinary medicine, optometry and podiatry. The Program provides academic guidance and career counseling, tutoring, preparation for MCATs and other assistance to become a successful applicant to the health professions.
