The Research Foundation of the City University of New York (RFCUNY) is a private, not-for-profit educational corporation chartered by the State of New York in 1963. It was created because the distinctive environment of sponsored programs demands flexibility and the capacity to respond quickly to a wide variety of conditions and changing sponsor requirements.
The RF supports CUNY faculty and staff in identifying and obtaining external support (pre-award) from government and private sponsors and is responsible for the administration of all such funded programs (post-award).
Although the RF works closely with CUNY, it is governed by its own Board of Directors, issues its own independently audited financial statements, operates its own payroll system and fringe benefits plan, and purchases a wide variety of goods and services in accordance with its own rules and regulations.
