Graduate Adolescent Mathematics Education Programs (7-12)
There are five different graduate program plans:
- Two of these lead to a Master's Degree and New York State Certification.
- Two other programs are designed to prepare teacher candidates who hold an initial (or provisional) certificate to teach mathematics in New York State (or the equivalent), but who lack the master's degree necessary for professional (or permanent) certification.
- Finally, a fifth program is designed for individuals who hold an undergraduate degree in mathematics (or its equivalent) and a masters degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science or computer science.

Initial Certification Program
This program is designed to prepare students who have an undergraduate major in mathematics or the equivalent, but who lack the education core and master's degree needed to teach at the adolescent (grades 7-12) level. The program leads to New York State Initial Certification to teach mathematics in grades 7-12. Professional Certification Program
This program is designed to prepare students who hold an initial (or provisional) certificate to teach mathematics at the adolescent level in New York State (or the equivalent), but who lack the masters degree necessary for professional (or permanent) certification. Advanced Certificate Program
This graduate program is designed for students who hold an undergraduate degree in mathematics (or its equivalent) and a masters degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science or computer science. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be recommended for New York State Initial Certification at the adolescent level in mathematics. Program completers will have met the education requirements for professional certification. This program has recently been recognized as being in compliance with NCTM-NCATE outcomes. Graduate Middle School Mathematics Education Program (5-9)
This program is intended for students with a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics (including Calculus I) or the equivalent, but who lack the education core for New York State Teacher Certification in Middle School Mathematics. The program leads to a master's degree and New York State initial certification to teach as a mathematics specialist in middle schools (grades 5-9). Program Planning Sheet
Professional Certification Program
This program is intended for students with a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics (including Calculus I) or the equivalent and who are initially certified by New York State to teach at another level or in another content area. This program leads to New York State professional certification to teach as a mathematics specialist in New York State middle schools (grades 5-9). Program Planning Sheet
