Alvaro Martins is a senior completing a BA in Black Studies to pursue a PhD in History. He is originally from Rochester, New York but grew up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He is hoping to pursue a career in community organizing and education. Alvaro is very passionate about community activism and organizing, to improve the living conditions of working-class tenants in Brooklyn, by building collective power. His research interests center around the history of organized resistance against racism and colonial oppression in the United States. Currently, Alvaro’s research examines tenant organizing in the Northeastern United States in the 20th Century.
