Research: Patricia investigated the shifts in socio-political and economic structures in 16^th and 17^th century Santo Domingo that have shaped Dominican racial consciousness as it exists today. In her annotated bibliography, she grapples with the complexity and seemingly contradictory nature of the co-existence of Black Codes for enslaved African Black people in the colony at the time with voluntary migration of Black women to Santo Domingo, and more contemporary characterizations of the territory as negrophobic.
