Julián Antonio Valdés Ramírez, Ph.D. is a professor of Philosophy and Politics at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD). In 2019, he was named Professor of the Year in both the Department of Sociology and the Department of Economics at UASD. Prof. Valdes is a prolific writer. His list of publications include 50 años de construcción democrática: República Dominicana de 1961 a 2011, published in 2015 by FUNGLODE and La relacion naturaleza-cultura como clave hermenéutica de la antropología estructural de Claude Lévi-Strauss, winner of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Essay award in 2018. His latest research project, titled "Sueños de superación. Estudiantes dominicanos en la educación superior de New York 2000- 2020: estadísticas y percepciones" will analyze institutional data from 2000 to 2020 to assess educational mobility among college students of Dominican ancestry in the State of New York. "Sueños de superación" is an expanded and updated version of Against All Odds: Dominican Students in Higher Education in New York (2004), the first detailed study ever conducted on Dominican students in Higher Education in the United States.
