BHM 2025

Black History Month 2025

A Note from Dean Juan Carlos Mercado

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

As we begin February, I am writing to you to acknowledge and celebrate Black History Month. This annual observance is a time for us to reflect on the profound contributions of Black individuals to our society, culture, and history and to reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable future.

Black History Month is not simply about looking back; it's about understanding the present and shaping the future. It's a time to acknowledge Black Americans' struggles, resilience, and triumphs and to recognize the ongoing impact of their contributions in fields ranging from science and technology to arts and literature, politics and activism, and beyond. It's also a time to confront the systemic racism and inequalities that persist honestly and to dedicate ourselves to dismantling them.

At CCNY/CWE, we believe that diversity is a strength, and we are committed to fostering an environment where all students, faculty, and staff feel valued, respected, and empowered. We celebrate Black history and culture throughout the year, spark dialogue, and promote understanding in our International Academic Conferences, lectures, film festivals, workshops, performances, exhibitions, etc. I encourage you to participate in these events and engage in meaningful conversations with your peers and colleagues. A full schedule of events is available on our website as well as in the broadcast blasts.

This month offers us an important opportunity to learn from the past, celebrate the present, and work together to create a more just and equitable future for all. Let us use this time to listen, learn, and amplify the voices and experiences of Black individuals within our community and beyond.

Also, I would like to share some BHM resources, specifically from here:
