Requirements for Declaration of Major

(after completing 20 credits)

Required:
  • Chem 10301, 10401; Math 20100
  • Taking or Completed: Chem 26100, Math 21200
  • Recommended Minimum GPA: 2.5 or greater

Majors must maintain a grade of C in all science courses, and should have an overall GPA of at least 2.0.

Students are strongly urged to declare the major as early as possible. This will allow the Chemistry Department to assign you to a major advisor who will help you to select courses and inform you of departmental requirements.
The advisor will also monitor your progress at CCNY.

Advising

Upon declaring the Chemistry major, each new major is assigned a permanent faculty advisor.  The advisor is a full-time member of the Chemistry faculty who will assist the major until they graduate.  The professor will review the student's classes, advise them on their progress through the curriculum and approve them for graduation.

Every semester, chemistry majors are required to meet with their advisors for registration.  They are encouraged to meet with them more frequently.

Students should bring completed major forms to each appointment with their advisor.
