Details
Date: June 27 - July 1, 2024

Location: Appalachian Mountain Club Highland Center at Crawford Notch - White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire

Wilderness First Aid (WFA) training intends to prepare you for a medical situation that may arise when you are in the backcountry and there is no ambulance, you are short on supplies, the wait for help is unknown and moving the patient a short distance might take hours. WFA also teaches you how to avoid these situations through increased awareness of how to prepare ahead of time for backcountry trips where medical resources will not be readily available.

The course is based on modern emergency medical care practices modified and specialized for backcountry environments.

The WFA course is a two-day, 16-hour course (8 hours/day) and covers a full range of situations, from scrapes and blisters to life-threatening emergencies. Participants will learn accident scene management and how to communicate effectively with an emergency rescue party. Our Wilderness First Aid training will also include a separate CPR course. By the completion of this training, all participants will receive a 2-year WFA Certification. WFA training instructors are highly experienced in the outdoors, WFA certified, EMT or Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certified (or higher), and CPR certified.

The CCNY Outdoors Project will arrange for roundtrip transportation from campus to New Hampshire Departure time TBD. The bus ride is expected to take between 5 to 8 hours. During your stay in New Hampshire, all meals and lodging are included. Participants will have shared bunk rooms (4 people per room) and a shared washroom.

Everyone will have some free time to explore the area and hike. The lodge has a gear room where you can rent gear such as hiking boots, rain jackets and more. A packing list will be provided to you once your registration is complete.

There is a non-refundable fee of $25 which must be submitted with your Confidential Health Questionnaire Forms.

If all materials and payment are not submitted together, your application is considered incomplete and your spot is not guaranteed.

Deadline to register: May 21, 2024
