Biochemistry Seminar: Benjamin Neel, MD, PhD, "New Approaches to Targeting Cancer"
Benjamin G. Neel, Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean for Cancer Research, Perlmutter Cancer Center, NYU Langone Health and NYU Grossman School of Medicine, will present a talk titled, "New approaches to targeting cancer."
ABSTRACT
Although much progress has been made in cancer biology and cancer therapeutics, and many cancer patients with disseminated cancer are surviving longer, most will still recur and succumb to their disease. Combination therapies and new targets/approaches will most likely be needed to convert life extension to cures. I will describe recent work, most unpublished, on targeting the SHP2/RAS/ERK pathway in non-small cell lung cancer and a new hypoxia pathway involving PTP1B and RNF213, a large multi-domain E3 ligase associated with Moyomoya disease, which can be exploited to trigger inflammatory (pyroptotic) cell death of breast cancer cells.
