Admitted Freshman Guide

Step 1 - Log onto your MyCity Account

Log onto your MyCity account (https://cunyccny.askadmissions.net/Vip/Default.aspx).

MyCity is your personalized portal that contains all of your instructions for finalizing your admission and preparing for advisement and enrollment. Your login details are provided in your acceptance e-mail.

Step 2 - Submit your Intent to Enroll

To accept or decline our offer of admission, please log onto your MyCity account and follow the instructions in the "Submit your Intent to Enroll" checklist item.

Step 3 - Pay the Commitment Deposit

Log onto your MyCity account and click on the "Pay your Commitment Deposit" checklist item. If the "Pay your Commitment Deposit" checklist item is already checked, then you have qualified for a waiver and your deposit has been waived. If your deposit has not been waived, then the checklist item will have linked instructions on how to pay your deposit.

Step 4 - Complete Benny's Tools for Student Success

Whenever we start a new endeavor, there is a learning curve. There are policies, procedures, systems, tools and resources that we need to learn before we are ready to get started. College is no different. Whether this is your first semester in college or you are a transfer student and this is your first semester at City College, there are things you should know so that you can be successful from the beginning.

Benny’s Tools for Student Success is designed to make the transition to City College as smooth as possible for new freshmen and transfer students. You can access Benny's Tools for Student Success in your MyCity checklist.

Step 5 - Activate your Citymail Account

Citymail is your official City College e-mail address. Once your Citymail account has been generated you will be notified via e-mail and on your MyCity checklist of how to activate your account.

Step 6 - Submit Advanced Placement coursework for evaluation

If you took Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations, completed military training or service, or earned college credit while in high school, then you may be entitled to transfer credit. Log onto your MyCity account and review our Transfer Credit Evaluation Guidelines in the Transfer Credit Evaluation section below your checklist. There you will find instructions on how to send us your documents.

Step 7 - Review your Math Placement

All incoming freshman students will be provided with a math placement based on their high school academic record. This placement will determine the appropriate math level at City College, and with the exception of engineering applicants, will not prevent entry into the intended major. Math placement information will be provided to you on your MyCity account as soon as your placement has been determined. Students that prefer to take an in-person Math Placement Test will have the opportunity to do so via their MyCity account.

Students educated outside of the United States may be required to take ESL and/or ATB exams in a virtual setting. For more information, please consult the Office of Evaluation and Testing website (https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/testing)

Step 8 - Prepare for New Student Advising and Orientation

Advising for new students is an important first step on your academic journey here at City College, whether you are a first time freshman or a transfer student. Your advisors are your first connection and are here to help you plan for success. Once you complete your MyCity checklist, a link will appear in the New Student Advising and Orientation section that will allow you to make an appointment with the appropriate advising office for your intended major. Once you have made that appointment, you will then also receive instructions on how to participate in City College’s virtual New Student Orientation (NSO). NSO is another important step to building your community at the college. We will introduce you to additional major resources that will support and enhance your experience at the college.
