CCNY Math Placement FAQs

This section provides answers to frequently asked questions relating to the CCNY Math Placement. The CCNY Math Placement Test is timed, multiple choice, computer-based and is administered in-person. There are 5 sections, each with 10 questions: Arithmetic, Algebra Part I, Algebra Part II, Trigonometry, and Pre-calculus. You have 30 minutes to complete each section. Calculators are not allowed.

Is the CCNY Math Placement Test in-person or online?

The CCNY Math Placement Test is being administered in-person.
 

Where do I go to schedule the CCNY Math Placement Test? Will there be more test dates?

If you are an incoming freshman, you will log in to your MyCity page to schedule a test. Please refer to your acceptance email for login information. If you are having trouble scheduling a test, you may contact us. Please note that test dates are usually made available for the next 2-3 weeks. However, you should test as soon as possible so you can register for classes in a timely manner and take advantage of any summer programs

How do I find out the results of my CCNY math placement test? How long will it take?

If you are a new student, you can find your math placement on your MyCity page a few days after your test. You may also contact our office for further assistance.

Can I register for courses other than math before I take the CCNY Math Placement test?

All incoming freshman are required to take the CCNY Math Placement Test before registering for classes.

 

How do I get accessibility accommodations after scheduling my test?

You should have accessibility accommodations approved by our AccessAbility Center/Student Disability Services prior to scheduling your CCNY Math Placement Test. Please visit https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/accessability for more information on how to register with the AccessAbility Center and request approval for accommodations. You may also contact our office for further assistance.

Do I have to take the CCNY Math Placement test if I'm taking AP or college-level math courses in high school?

You are still required to take the CCNY Math Placement Test even if you are taking AP or college-level math courses in high school. However, you may inform your academic advisor about any AP scores or college credits at the time of registration.

Can I be exempted from taking the CCNY Math Placement Test?

No, all incoming freshman are required to take the CCNY Math Placement Test.

When is the deadline to take the CCNY Math Placement Test?

You need to take the CCNY Math Placement Test before coming for new student advising and orientation. You should test as soon as possible so you can register for classes in a timely manner and take advantage of any summer programs.

I’m an international student. Can I take the CCNY Math Placement Test online?

The CCNY Math Placement Test is only administered in-person. Please check our test schedule prior to your arrival to schedule a test. Please note that test dates are usually made available for the next 2-3 weeks. You may contact our office for further assistance.

I’m a continuing student and would like to take the CCNY Math Placement Test. How can I register?

The CCNY Math Placement Test is primarily administered to incoming freshman to determine their first math course at CCNY. You should contact your academic advisor to determine what math class you should take next. If an advisor determines that you need a placement exam, you can contact us.

I’m a transfer student. Which math course should I take next?

As a transfer student, your next math course may be based on your previous coursework. If you are unsure of your next math course, you should contact an academic advisor. If an advisor determines that you need a placement exam, you can contact us.

I'm a second degree or non-degree student. What math course should I be taking?

You should contact an academic advisor who can help you find a math class based on your previous coursework. If an advisor determines that you need a placement exam, you can contact us.
