If you are a continuing CCNY or CUNY BA student in good standing and with no outstanding bills or STOPS, you are eligible to register by web. Undergraduate students must have a GPA of 2.0 or above, and graduate students 3.0 or above.
To register for Winter Session, click on Fall registration link in eSIMS.
To use eSIMS online, you must have a CUNY Portal account.
You must use the CUNY Portal to access:
- eSIMS
- Blackboard
- DegreeWorks
In order to do this, you must activate and use your CCNY email address – the single most important means of communication to/from the College.
When, how long, and how often can I use the system? You may use the web registration system at any time on or after December 1, and up to the last day of registration. There are no appointments. Winter Session registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Note: Federal and State financial aid CANNOT be applied towards Winter Session tuition.
Web Registration Instructions
- Complete the Registration Form. (get pdf version)
- See your advisor for approval of your course selections prior to registration, if necessary.
- Log into the CUNY Portal and click on the eSIMS link. Note: To register for Winter Session, click on Fall registration link in eSIMS.
- Read the Welcome Message that appears on the screen for additional information related to registration.
- Select the Registration option to register for courses.
- Type in the code number(s) as listed on the registration form.
- After you have made all the entries, click the SUBMIT button.
- If there are any problems with your registration, they will be listed on the registration page. (Scroll down this page to see Web Registration Problem Messages) If this happens, you must see your advisor on campus for assistance in completing your registration.
- You may view and print your schedule at any time. You may also view and print your unofficial bill and transcript.
- Review your bill when you have completed your initial registration transaction. Although winter session courses will appear on your fall semester bill, please DISREGARD the due date listed and note that all winter session bills must be paid or validated by or before the due date.
PAYMENTS
- Log into the CUNY Portal and click on the eSIMS link to pay your bill on-line with an electronic check or credit card. Click on "View Your Bill", "Pay Now" and continue to follow the instructions.
- Payments by cash or money order may be made in person at the Bursar’s office located in the Wille Administration building, room A-103.

If you cannot or choose not to attend your course, please drop your courses (either through the CUNY Portal or in-person) by or before the last day of registration to receive a 100% refund or avoid liability for tuition and fees. ZERO BILLS
Effective Fall 2011, students are no longer required to validate their zero bills. The Office of the Bursar will automatically validate zero bills. Confirmation will be sent to CCNY email addresses.
Note: If you add, drop or make other changes to your initial registration, you may view subsequent revisions on eSIMS or pick up your bill from the Bursar’s office.

Web Registration Problem Messages
Course is closed There are no more seats available in the course or section you selected. You may ask the system to search for open sections. Course is canceled The course you selected has been canceled by the college. Time conflict You have attempted to register for courses that meet during overlapping time periods. You may choose one or the other, but NOT both. Maximum limit exceeded You have exceeded the maximum number of credits for the semester. Course requires permission from the department Registration for this course cannot be completed by web and must be done in the department. The College has placed a STOP on your record The system will explain the type of STOP and direct you to the appropriate office to clear it; you will not be able to register until all STOPS on your record have been cleared. (For example, if you have an unpaid bill from a previous semester, you will be directed to the Bursar to pay it before you will be allowed to register.) Registration for Continuing Students
- Make sure there are no STOPS on your record that would delay your registration. If you have any STOPS you can verify them by going online to view your records on your eSims account. Clear all STOPS prior to registration.

- Log into the CUNY Portal and click the eSIMS link to register online. To register for winter session, click on Fall registration link in eSIMS:
- If you are an undergraduate student with a GPA of 2.0 or above, or a graduate student with a GPA of 3.0 or above, you are eligible to register online. We urge you to take advantage of online registration to help you get the classes that you want.
- If you are an undergraduate student with a GPA below 2.0, or a graduate student with a GPA below 3.0, you must meet with an advisor in your department before registering.
- Web registration for continuing students begins December 1, on a first-come, first-served basis. In-person registration is December 14-15. There are no appointments.

Registration for Visiting CUNY Students
Students currently enrolled at another CUNY college must file an e-Permit with their home college. Check the website of your home college for e-Permit application and procedures.
Upon approval of your e-Permit, you will receive an email from the CCNY Office of Admissions informing you of your appointment date/time for web registration. The email will be sent to the address recorded from your CUNY Portal account.
Note: E-Permit approval does not constitute course registration. Log in to the CUNY Portal and use the Fall registration link in eSIMS to register by web on your appointed date/time or come to the CCNY Office of the Registrar (located in the Wille Administration building, room A-102) on December 14-15, for in-person registration.
- Refer to the winter session schedule of classes for course information and complete a registration form.
- Submit the completed registration form to the Office of the Registrar located in the Wille Administration building, room A-102. Registration is subject to space availability.
- CUNY e-Permit students perform bill payment at their home college, however, students must present a validated bill from their home college to the CCNY Bursar's office (located in the Wille Administration building, room A-103) no later than the due date.
- If you cannot or choose not to attend your course, please drop your courses (either through the CUNY Portal or in person at the Office of the Registrar) by or before the last day of registration to receive a 100% refund or avoid liability for tuition and fees. Students who drop a course after the last day of registration will receive a reduced refund (see the Academic Calendar for refund schedule).

Registration for Non-CUNY Visiting Students
Students who are currently enrolled in schools outside CUNY must provide the Office of Admissions with written permission from their home school, together with a completed non-degree application form. There is a non-refundable application fee of $65.
Visitors from other colleges may be restricted from taking courses in the Grove School of Engineering and Spitzer School of Architecture and in the English as a Second Language program. The Department of Mathematics may request that students take an examination to verify placement into specific courses.
Note: Non-degree students attending City College are not eligible to take courses on permit at another CUNY college.
