MPA Program Hosts Climate Action: People, Power, and Policy

This week, the MPA Program hosted the event titled Climate Action: People, Power, and Policy in Shepard Hall at CCNY. 

The event featured a public conversation between Bobby Derival, the executive director of the MPA Program, and Andrés Bernal, a CUNY Lecturer, organizer, and senior policy advisor. The discussion explored climate policies and actions that push the boundaries of the current policy panorama and could offer new pathways for achieving a just and sustainable society. 

Bernal and Derival discussed ways that our society could adapt to protect the people and spaces that make up our communities almost a decade after Hurricane Sandy, when NYC and its more than 8 million habitants find ourselves more vulnerable than ever to the worst effects of a rapidly evolving climate crisis.

Born in Colombia and brought to the US as a child, Andres Bernal has over a decade of experience in youth leadership development and community building. He previously worked as a policy advisor to the Congressional campaign of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

More than 30 attendees from CCNY and the NYC community joined the MPA Program for the discussion, which was part of our fall event series.
