Roxie Xie, a first year student in the Branding and Integrated Communications (BIC) master’s program, has been selected to be a strategy intern as part of the American Association of Advertising Agencies’ (4A's) prestigious Multi-Cultural Advertising Internship Program (MAIP). Albert Connolly, a Spanish language major in the Macaulay Honors Program at The City College of New York, is the winner of a 2019-2020 Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) award to Colombia. The competitive national award is administered by the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. A senior, Connolly returns to the South American country this fall after spending fall 2018 studying Spanish literature at Universidad Central, Bogotá, in the capital city. Loretta Violante of The City College of New York’s Macaulay Honors Program was already headed to Seoul in the fall to study printmaking and sculpture on a Therese Ralston Connor Award from CCNY’s art department. Now she’s won a Critical Language Scholarship from the federal government that will see her spend summer learning Korean in the port city of Busan. The two awards mean that the studio art major will spend almost six months this year on the Korean peninsula earning credits while learning new skills and a new language. Charles J. Vörösmarty, professor of civil engineering in The City College of New York and one of the world’s foremost hydrologists, is the recipient of the Hungarian Order of Merit. Visiting Hungarian President János Áder presented the Commander’s Cross (civilian class), to Vörösmarty at their country’s Consulate General in Manhattan. It is Hungary’s second highest honor and the citation read in part: “for promoting the international academic cooperation and the international reputation of Hungary, and in recognition of his research to resolve global sustainable water management issues.”

Waterston, professor of genome sciences and medicine at the University of Washington Medical School, is this year’s Louis Levine-Gabriella de Beer Lecture in Genetics speaker at The City College of New York on April 2.
