Vocal legend Sheila Jordan, guitar hero Pete McCann, the acclaimed Scott Reeves Jazz Orchestra, and piano master Fred Hersch will perform at the 2022 CUNY Jazz Festival, May 5-6, at The City College of New York. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and Chief Medical Advisor to the President, is the keynote speaker at The City College of New York’s 169th Commencement 10 a.m. on June 3. He will receive the honorary degree Doctor of Science. City College will also honor Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Stanley Nelson, a 1976 CCNY alumnus, with the honorary degree Doctor of Fine Arts. Ban Ki-moon, who served as the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, will discuss global affairs when he delivers the eighth annual Sternberg Family Lecture in Public Scholarship at The City College of New York on Monday, May 2. Four Folded Square Alphabet Letters from the Fletcher Benton: The Alphabet series are on permanent display at The City College of New York’s south campus. Known as one of America’s leading sculptors, the late artist’s style consisted of cutting, folding and realigning two-dimensional sheets of steel into three-dimensional objects that seem to defy gravity. Gifted to the college in 2013 by Eva Haller, who attended City College from 1954-1955, and her husband Dr. Yoel Haller, the letters spell out CCNY and were estimated to be worth $500,000 at the time. The CCNY-MSK Partnership, a partnership between The City College of New York and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, is hosting a Harlem Community Health Expo. The expo is on Saturday, April 23 from 1-5 p.m. and includes health information, cancer and dental screenings, COVID-19 information, nutritional information as well as health and wellness classes. A new endowed scholarship, the Norman Klein Scholarship, has been created to support graduate students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The City College of New York. The scholarship, which is pending CUNY Board of Trustees approval, will provide expenses for recipients, which may include tuition and fees, as well as support for students to participate in national project competitions. The first Norman Klein (1958 & 1961) Scholarship will be awarded in the 2022/2023 academic year. The scholarship has been established by Norman Klein, who graduated from CCNY with a BS in 1958, and

Rose Mary Biju, a summa cum laude graduate of the Sophie Davis Biomedical Education Program with a 3.96 GPA, is The City College of New York’s Class of 2022 Valedictorian. Ali Khalil, who is graduating summa cum laude with a 3.91 GPA and BS in biology, is the Salutatorian. Both Biju and Khalil are immigrant members of a CCNY student body ranked among the most diverse in the nation by the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education. As war rages in Eastern Europe, The City College of New York welcomes Luis Moreno Ocampo, founding and former Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), as the keynote speaker at a timely conference on human rights, April 20-22. The Argentine-born Moreno Ocampo will discuss “War and Justice in the 21st Century” at the start of CCNY’s second annual Critical Perspectives on Human Rights Conference. The City College of New York is pleased to announce the establishment of the Sternberg Family Professor of Leadership at the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership. The endowed professorship is a gift from Seymour (Sy) Sternberg ’65, ’10 (hon.) and Laurie Sternberg and honors the late General Colin Powell. The Sternbergs originally established the Sternberg Lecture in Public Service at the Colin Powell School in 2014. It is designed to foster conversations about relevant public and policy related discussions and will be continued under the auspice of this new endowed professorship
