Nearly 170 years after he founded The City College of New York and went on to forge U.S.-Japan relations, the lure of Townsend Harris continues in the Far East. A new study led by Assistant Medical Professor Philip Smith of The City College of New York’s Sophie Davis Biomedical Education/CUNY School of Medicine, and conducted in collaboration with researchers at Yale University and Yeshiva University, found important differences between women and men in their ability to quit smoking when taking medications commonly prescribed to help smokers quit. A civic initiative to increase the proportion of minorities among New York City’s teaching ranks is taking shape – and the City College of New York’s School of Education is in the forefront of it. CCNY shares trove of Ravi Shankar lectures and performances

Before Ravi Shankar, whom George Harrison called the “godfather of world music,” became the internationally-recognized legend that he remains today, he was a City College of New York visiting professor. Shankar taught courses at CCNY in the fall of 1967, including Special Topics: Music in Indian Culture: Theory and Practice (graduate).
