“Thy Father’s Chair” premieres at DOC NYC film festival

Antonio Tibaldi is one of several notable filmmakers in The City College of New York’s Department of Media and Communication Arts. His impressive body of work includes five feature films. In the documentary genre, his latest production, “Thy Father’s Chair,” has critics raving.

“A deeply human documentary,” lauds “The Los Angeles Times” while “The Hollywood Reporter” describes it as “a clear-eyed chronicle of domestic disrepair.”

Now the film is one of the 18 in competition amongst 250 that will screen at DOC NYC, the country’s largest documentary film festival, Nov. 10 – 17, in Manhattan. New Yorkers can get their first look at “Thy Father’s Chair” at its NYC premiere Sunday, Nov. 13, at Cinépolis Chelsea (260 West 23rd Street).

Showtime is 5:15 p.m. and will be followed by a discussion with Tibaldi and his co-director Alex Lora, a 2012 City College alumnus and Student Academy Award finalist that year.

“Thy Father’s Chair” made its world premiere at IDFA in the Netherlands in November 2015. It has since become an international favorite, playing at major film festivals in many countries including Greece, Spain, Israel and Italy.

The film offers a unique and intimate access to the lives of two identical Orthodox Jewish twins who since the death of their parents have been accumulating all sorts of stuff. Under the threat of losing their house, they have to open their doors to a specialized cleaning company. This traumatic invasion of privacy leads the twins to fight to preserve their memories.
