Sal Khan ‘reimagines education’ in CCNY Rudin Lecture

Sal Khan, the educator and entrepreneur whose mission is to provide a free, world-class education to millions globally, presents The City College of New York’s 2019 Samuel Rudin Distinguished Visiting Scholar Lecture on April 1. Entitled “Reimagining Education,” it starts 4 p.m. in the Marian Anderson Theater of CCNY’s Aaron Davis Hall, located at 129 Convent Ave. & West 135th St., in Manhattan.

Khan is the founder of the Khan Academy, a free online education platform through which he pursues his goal to provide free, quality education to anyone anywhere. The Academy’s content and mastery learning platform has over 71 million registered users from around the world and has been localized into more than 30 languages.

As of December 2018, the Khan Academy channel on YouTube had more than 4.5 million subscribers and its videos had been viewed more than 1.6 billion times.  Khan is also the founder of Khan Lab School, a brick-and-mortar school associated with the Khan Academy.

In 2012, Time Magazine named Khan to its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. He’s also been featured on the cover of Forbes magazine.

Khan holds three degrees from MIT and an MBA from Harvard University.

Launched in 1996, the Rudin Lecture is now in its 23rd year. This year’s talk is co-sponsored by the Siegel Family Endowment.

Previous Rudin Scholars have included: former CBS News anchor Walter Cronkite; former Congresswoman Patricia S. Schroeder; author Walter Mosley, ’91MA; former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw; filmmaker Ric Burns; Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and Nobel Prize-winning author Mo Yan.

About the Samuel Rudin Lecture
The Samuel Rudin Visiting Scholars Lecture provides an opportunity for members of the college community to interact with outstanding scholars, business leaders, and government officials, enriching the education experience on campus. The program is also intended to foster communication within the academic community of New York City. Samuel Rudin, a civic and philanthropic leader in New York City, was a member of the Class of 1918 at City College and went on to a prominent real estate career. The Samuel Rudin Distinguished Visiting Scholars Program is supported by a grant from the May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation, Inc.
