CCNY participates in Harlem Week’s historic Percy Sutton 5K run and walk

The City College of New York, in conjunction with the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce, Harlem Week 2022 and the New York Road Runners (NYRR), gathered for the annual Percy Sutton Harlem 5K Run and the Harlem Health Walk.

The 5K race took place on Aug. 13 and honors the late Percy Sutton, who was the Manhattan borough president in the 1970s and who championed the New York City Marathon as a five-borough event.

CCNY President Vincent Boudreau along with students, faculty, staff and alumni participated in the run and walk with this year’s Harlem Health Walk theme of “Anti-Gun Violence, Save Our Children.”

The intergenerational and diverse walk served as New York City’s call to action to reduce and end gun violence nationwide. Since 2018, a portion of the race runs through City College along Convent Avenue from 140th to 135th St.

CCNY’s Harlem Week participation continues on Aug. 17 with a jobs and career fair, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the College’s Shepard Hall.

This year, Harlem Week, which runs from runs from Aug. 12-21, will also celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce.
