Banner for WE WANT THE FUNK!

WE WANT THE FUNK! is a syncopated voyage through the history of funk music, spanning from African, soul, and early jazz roots, to its rise into the public consciousness. Featuring James Brown's dynamism, the extraterrestrial funk of George Clinton's Parliament Funkadelic, transformed girl group Labelle, and Fela Kuti's Afrobeat, the story also traces funk's influences on both new wave and hip-hop.

See the film and hear from director Stanley Nelson (CCNY gradueate!) about the film and his career!

Join us in person for this Indie Popup event at the City College of NY, Shepard Hall Room 291, 259 Convent Avenue at 140th Street. ASL and CART will be provided for the talk. The building is accessible with a ramp and elevator to the second floor. Bring your ID to enter the building. This is a community event leading up to the PBS premiere of the film "WE WANT THE FUNK!". Enjoy light refreshments before the film screening.
