FRIDA - Documentary and Director Talk
Join us to screen this fascinating new documentary about the great artist Frida Kahlo - and hear from the director, Carla Gutiérrez.
In this inventive film, Gutiérrez uses Kahlo's own writings and interviews, along with archives and animation to chronicle her life and career from a first-person perspective. Many of the most pivotal moments of her life are described, from her devastating trolley car accident to her complicated relationship with the fellow Mexican painter DIego Rivera, and her affair with the Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky. The film premiered at Sundance this year and won the Jonathan Oppenheim Editing Award.

"It was an exceptional life, and here at last is a film that not only honors her without resorting to sensationalism but that also lets her speak. At the end of Gutiérrez's fine film, you likely will feel the spell of a remarkable person's company." - Sheri Linden, for The Hollywood Reporter
