Film Grants and Labs: Firelight Media and NY Foundation for the Arts
You are making - or hoping to make your film - and two organizations that support BIPOC filmmakers will be coming to talk about what they do and how you might be able to benefit.
Firelight Media is a nonprofit supporting non fiction filmmakers of color, with a variety of possibilities - from labs to fellowships to grants and more. Founded by the team behind acclaimed filmmaker Stanley Nelson's Firelight films, Firelight has helped to nurture numerous award winning BIPOC filmmakers.
NYFA - New York Foundation for the Arts - supports filmmakers with grants and resources - and has a special fund for women in film, music and theater - with a November 1st deadline. NYFA's grants are open to all, but we are targeting BIPOC filmmakers in this seminar.
Find out about their programs, and meet Monika Navarro, Firelight Media's Senior Director of Artist Programs, and Anna Wong, a Program Officer with NYFA Grants, who is coordinating the NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music, and Theatre. While a lot of grants are not available to students - you will want to know about these groups so as you finish up school, you can jump on these opportunities.
