CCNY James Baldwin Centennial Celebration: Our Hometown Giant Film Series
A double feature of James Baldwin documentaries will be screening at Aaron Davis Hall on Thursday, 11/21 at 6:00PM as part of the college’s celebration of Baldwin’s centennial year—MEETING THE MAN: JAMES BALDWIN IN PARIS and I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO. The films will be introduced by Black Studies Professor Emily Raboteau.
MEETING THE MAN: JAMES BALDWIN IN PARIS is a portrait of James Baldwin, one of the towering figures of 20th-century American literature, Black culture and political thought, filmed in Paris. The iconic writer is captured in many symbolic locations in Paris, where he was living at the time. Directed by Terence Dixon.
Directed by Raoul Peck & Written by James Baldwin, I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO is an examination of racism in America through the lens of James Baldwin’s unfinished book, REMEMBER THIS HOUSE. (This film will also be showing earlier in the day at 12:15 in Shepard Hall, Room 291, introduced by Media and Communications Arts Professor Jerry Carlson.)
