------------------------------------------------------------
This evening is to present the film After Maria: The Two Shores and the filmmaker Sonia Fritz, but also to talk about what is happening now in Puerto Rico, post-Maria and post-earthquakes - and what can and should be done to support the people there.
The documentary Después de María: Las 2 orillas (After Maria: The Two Shores) is a look at Puerto Rico eight months after the passing of the hurricane. It explores several grassroots projects around the island, and what happened to families who had to evacuate and the efforts to rebuild. Sonia Fritz, the filmmaker, both lives and works in Puerto Rico and can speak to what the situation is right now.
In addition, members of the collective SiemPResente will speak about what is needed now and what folks here in the US can do. SiemPResente works to stimulate ideas, create connections between Boricuas on the islands and those in the diaspora and promote and execute responsible and sustainable ideas, visions and projects in Puerto Rico.
This program is copresented by PRdream.com, the Documentary Forum at CCNY and Third World Newsreel.
