The Gaming Pathways program provides support to several gaming-affiliated clubs and organizations at City College, including the CCNY Esports Club.
This club initially began as a space for students to connect and practice their skills in comptetitive games such as Valorant, Fortnite, Overwatch, Apex Legends, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Rainbow Six Siege. Though in recent years, the multi-billion dollar Esports industry has gained increasing popularity in NYC.
Gaming Pathways provides assistance and resources to our students looking to capitalize on that growth to increase their chances of receiving professional training, career opportunities, and business partnerships.
One recent partnership was seen on Saturday August 31st, when the CCNY Esports Team competed in a Valorant tournament against five other CUNY schools at OS NYC, one of the city’s fastest growing Esports venues.
We are proud to say that after competing in several brackets against teams from Hostos, John Jay, Baruch, Hunter College, and Brooklyn College, the City College Beavers ultimately came out victorious in the Grand Finals! Brooklyn College’s team put up an incredible match for the finals in this long-awaited rematch between them and City College.
This event was open to the public and 70+ club members across all six schools and their guests bore witness to the amazing achievements from their respective teams. The event was also streamed live on their Twitch page @CCNYEsports, which has netted over 2,000 views at the time of this publication. We are definitely excited to see more matches between CCNY’s Esports team and other schools spring up throughout the upcoming semesters.
